A Letter from the President 2010

Welcome members old and new to another great season at Minisink. 2010 is shaping up to be a busy one and I hope everyone enjoys the club to the fullest. Take advantage of the many activities or relax and reconnect with old friends as well as make new ones. At the absolute least – ENJOY!!!

There are plenty of activities being planned, some old traditions , some new ideas to check out. Check the website ( www.minisinkclub.com) and check your e-mail for schedules and details. We’ll be updating everyone as information becomes available. Minisink is increasingly going paperless – please keep your e-mail address up to date so you don’t miss out on any club communications. If you don’t have an e-mail, please contact Brenda Hynes, club Secretary, to receive hard copies of the club newsletter. She currently has 7 members who have requested hard copies. If you haven’t been receiving the newsletter, we either don’t have your e-mail or you’re not on Brenda’s list.

With the abundance of snow and rain the past couple months, the mosquito season is shaping up to be brutal. The news lately that NJ could have possibly lost 90% of our bat population to white powder syndrome will not help the situation. The Morris County Mosquito Commission schedules spraying according to the amount of phone calls they receive. About half way through last season, Minisink was finally sprayed and it was amazing the difference it made. Call early and call often – the number is 973-285-6450. The more members that call and make their voices heard, the more pleasant our summer season will be.

There are a lot of familiar faces you’ll see again this year. Todd Nixon and Chris Lake will be returning as our Manager and Assistant Manager as well as Lisa Boettrich and John Gullotta to steer the Mantarays to (hopefully) swimming victory!! Bruce, Deb and Carly will once again return to the courts and we’ll have Bunky, Trish & John back to run the snack bar.

Finally, I’d like to thank our outgoing trustees. Chris Agnew and Greg Castello, thank you for all your efforts to make Minisink a better place. A special thank you to Jack Maydick, our out going President, for his 20 years of dedication to the Minisink Board. You all will be missed. Join me in welcoming our three new board members. Rich West has taken on the responsibilities of Pools Ops, Rob Kraus has taken over as our new Treasurer and Tom Maroney has stepped into the Mainenance Trustee slot.

I look forward to seeing everyone for another awesome summer season. It’s right around the corner!!

Meet the Management Team

Todd Nixon, Club Manager/Director

This is Todd’s fourth year as Minisink’s General Manager. Many of you are quite familiar with him as he has run our swim lesson program for the past 10 years. Prior to Minisink, he ran the same program at the Florham Park Pool for 5 years. Todd was, at the same time, involved in the aquatics program at the Madison YMCA where he spent 15 years. His most recent position there was as Aquatic Director. He left the Y in 2006 to pursue another one of his aspirations and is presently a fireman with the Irvington Fire Dept. He is happy to have the opportunity to be at Minisink and continue to be involved in his passion for aquatics. Besides his responsibilities as manager, he continues to oversee the swim lesson program and to give private lessons. Todd is an American Red Cross Certified Instructor in AED, Life Guard Certification and CPR, as well as, First Aid and Oxygen Administration. Todd’s years of experience and wealth of knowledge are an invaluable asset to our club. He is looking forward to another great summer and is excited about carrying on in his positions at Minisink.

Lisa Boettrich, Head Swim Coach

We’d like to welcome back Lisa to Minisink as our Head Swim Coach. Lisa is currently the Associate Director of Competitive Aquatics at the Madison Y where she has been for the past two years assisting the Head Coach and developing a Master’s Program among several other responsibilities. Prior to the Madison Y, Lisa was the Assistant Swim Coach and Aquatics Director at Drew University where she scouted, recruited and coached student athletes and also developed DU’s US Master’s Swim Team. As a student, Lisa was a member of the University of Buffalo Division I Mid-American Conference Swim Team from 1999-2003. While at Buffalo, Lisa’s achievements include the Coach’s Award in 2003 and the Taurus Aureus Scholar Award. Lisa was also a member of the record breaking 200 Medley Relay Team in 2000. Lisa is excited to be a part of the Minisink Swim program and is looking forward to a fun 2010 season.

John Gullotta – Swim Coach

John returns to Minisink for his second year. Presently, John is the Head Coach and Director of Competitive Aquatics at the Madison Y where he’s held these positions for the past two years
. John is responsible for designing the season training plan and meet schedule for all age groups and skill levels as well as interacting closely with parents, athletes and Madison Y staff and management. Prior to the Madison Y, John coached the Empire Swim Team and Middies Swimming. John is also currently a Post Production Coordinator for NBC.
Lisa and John are very excited to be a part of the Minisink Swim Program and are looking forward to a fun 2010 season. Please say hello and welcome Lisa and John back to the Minsink Community.
